The flyover will start from Chhedanagar in Ghatkopar East and end at Anandnagar Thane.
Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) recently opened key flyover which connects Chheda Nagar Junction in Ghatkopar to Santacruz Chembur Link Road (SCLR) flyover. Now, the authority is planning to extend the flyover to Thane.
The recently-held 154th Authority meet of MMRDA approved the proposal to construct 13 kilometer flyover.
"The authority has approved to the extension of Chhedanagar flyover from Ghatkopar to Thane. The proposed 13 km long and 3+3 lane elevated Bridge will start from Chhedanagar in Ghatkopar East and end at Anandnagar Thane," the MMRDA said in a statement.
Chheda Nagar is a prime traffic junction on Eastern Express Highway (EEH) where the Mankhurd Ghatkopar link road meets EEH. Once the Santacruz Chembur Link Road and Eastern Freeway is fully completed, traffic on both these roads meets at Chheda Nagar junction
The flyover which was opened on March 13 was is one of the three flyovers planned to decongest the Chheda Nagar Junction and it benefits commuters from Thane, Mankhurd, Navi Mumbai and Pune towards Mumbai and vice-versa.
The authority also approved several vital projects including the "tunnel road from Orange Gate to Marine Drive, Versova Virar Sea Bridge, Twin tunnel between Thane and Borivili as well as a giant observation wheel."
MMRDA will also be appointing a consultant to prepare detailed project report for immediate implementation of extension of Metro Line 5 (Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan).
This project will be extended upto Khadakpada in Phase-I and up to Ulhas Nagar in phase 2 and will benefit the citizens of Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, Badlapur and surrounding area by providing them quality and comfortable mode of transport, MMRDA said.
On the 3.8 km long Tunnel Road to provide vehicular connectivity between Orange Gate, Eastern
Freeway to Marine Drive on Mumbai costal road, the authority added this project will significantly reduce traffic congestion during rush hours.
